V70 T5 buying advice.

The seller seemed genuinely surprised I wasn't going to buy it. Even after it stalled and left me stranded for a few minutes.

Luckily I'm in no rush. Hopefully a nice one will come up.

The car is in pretty good condition. Not immaculate but good. I was sold after the test drive. It drove really well and has reams of paperwork. It was serviced and had new disc and pads just over 100 miles ago. All at main dealer.

So I'm really pleased. Except for a couple of niggles. The alarm service warning came on after I refuelled. Not a big deal.

On the way home I noticed a high pitched droning kind of sound. As if one of the alloys is resonating. Only between 30-60 mph and only when your turing the wheel slightly to the left. If you put more lock on the sound disappears. Both front tyres are good with even wear. Initial thoughts are a wheel bearing or maybe something to do with the new discs and pads?

Any thoughts greatly received. Either way I'll get my local independent to take a look.

Glad you got what you wanted. My first thought on the noise would also be wheel bearing although you also have a driveshaft support bearing on the O/S shaft on these.

Re the discs/pads it's possible that the backplate was slightly bent when these were changed and now making very slight contact with the disc. I would think the noise would be evident from very low speeds if this were the case though.

Overall I'm pleased with the car. A little frustrated I didn't pick up on the noise during the test drive but. I'm convinced its nothing serious. Hopefully I can get it checked out this week.

Little update. Discs and pads apparently. The invoice was an estimate. They were down to the bare bones. Hopefully thats all it is.

My suggestion was going the be the disc backing plate (stone guard) but it seems you have found the source.

Collected car this afternoon. They showed me the discs. They were verging on dangerous on the inside. The car feels much smoother now and is lovely and quiet.
