Welcome to maintaining historic cars - sometimes bits don't fit exactly! Swapping the pulley should be easy enough, you will need a three legged bearing pulley for other jobs anyway. The hose - you will have a hydraulic hose stockist that does a bit of manufacturing somewhere close by (everyone has), that should be able to find an elbow for you. Good fortune, Alan |

Thanks Alan - I didn't think of a local hydraulics place so called one in Bridgend and they're going to take a look and see if they have what's needed. I'd been searching for Volvo parts... :-)

Thanks Alan - the hose is low pressure, so connected with a jubilee clip (we're learning all the time!). I went to our local but they just work with high pressure systems so they sent me to the motor factors, who suggested I went to the first place! Sooo, I've looked online and found this:
https://www.thehosemaster.co.uk/r6-l...steering-hose/ Should that be the stuff? Not expensive. And if it is the right spec (I'll call them to ask) do I order the same internal dimension on the hose as the outer dimension of the connector on the pump and hold it there with the jubilee clip, or should the hose be slightly smaller internal dimension, still with jubilee clip? |

I've just had a look at mine, you are absolutely correct, just held on with a jubilee clip, so there must be a barb underneath. Forget everything I said about getting an elbow, that was rubbish - just buy some hydraulic pipe the same diameter as the original and a bit longer to account to the bend and re-attach with a jubilee clip as on the original. That should take about 10 minutes and is very simple - my apology for leading you on a wild goose chase, I should have checked the RB first. Good fortune, Alan |

No need to apologise, Alan - you sent us in the right direction, it's just that our local didn't have the right kind of hose. Without your advice we'd still be looking around for Volvo spares!
Cheers, C |

The fitting spigot could be either plain or as a hose tail fitting?
No problem whatever it is (I suspect plain) The internal bore is your main ordering point & length. O.D. to size the hose clip- Not sure what post charges are from the hose company-some are too high- but this specification pipe can be purchased via ebay by the Mtr. for a little over £5:00 all in. Ah, I paid £14 for 1m. But it's arriving tomorrow so hopefully we can get on with the job at the weekend.
Can anyone advise on a pulley puller to buy? I was about to buy gear pullers for about £15 from Amazon (Silverline) til I watched a couple of videos showing power steering pulley pullers which work differently. Haynes says to screw in a 3/8 inch x 2-3/4 inch UNC bolt (should that be metric?! M10?) and use a puller with arms. Bit confused! |

Any old bearing puller like this should do: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3PC-HEAVY...wAAOSws6ZZ7yF4 ... for this one you get 3 different size pullers for £12 - a bargain. They won't be high quality items, but you will probably only use one very occasionally, so they would do fine. For this job you could probably take the pump to any local garage or workshop and they will remove the pulley for the price of a drink - if you don't have the tool available by the weekend perhaps. Well done to you and your boy, you are making good progress and learning lots. Good fortune, Alan PS. Get a packet of assorted jubilee clips and change the old ones when you swap the pipe - keep some spares and do that whenever you swap something, it is good practice. |

For future reference- the 240 and 940 pas pumps are the same, the 940 one has a straight outlet for the return and the 240 has a 90 degree elbow.
Cheers. |
