I think I've found the ONE, but your opinions needed!
Morning all.
I'm off to see a 2011 V60 D3 R-Design once this weather abates! It's a private seller, and I'll be on my own so am looking for some advice as to what to look out for on the visit and test. It's on 99k miles, has a full history with Volvo and had a recent new clutch. It just had a service also. I know it's due it's 10 year/108k timing belt change soon too. It's up at £5250 and through the initial discussions I've got a reduction down to £5000. How does the price feel to anyone out there? What key things should I be looking for when I get there? I'm sold on the D3 from comments around the V50 I was kind of settling for recently, but the R-Design V60 has always been a bit of a grail car for me! Any opinion or comments welcome! Thanks in advance. |

I recently bought a D3 SE Lux with similar miles and FVSH for similar money so I would say it is about right price wise, depending on condition of course.
I got aux and timing belt and pulleys done soon after buying it rather than leave it to 108k. I bought the genuine parts myself and got a trusted garage to do the work. The squeaky bum moment came before I had it done after speaking to a Volvo specialist who said to check it had the modification done to the aux belt tensioner. Apparently the design of the tensioner changed back to a previous more robust design, which required drilling the block (anyone else, feel free to correct me on this!) It should have been done when the belt was replaced at 54k and thankfully in my case, it had been done. Call the main dealer that has serviced it and try to glean as much information on any work completed as possible as well as the modification. Check everything works as it should electrically and on the test drive check for any odd sounds and that it pulls well through the gears and check carpets for any signs of damp as screens are known to leak. Any signs of uneven tyre wear which could point to worn suspension parts and be thorough viewing the car overall. It is always worth going through the MOT history while you get the HPI checks done on it. I am sure others will chime in with more stuff that I have not thought of but take your time as there are plenty to choose from.

Ah that's really helpful! Thanks so much!
I'll take all of that on board. I'll also make a call to the garage that has looked after it tomorrow to find out about that fix. Hmmm. I know the wheels are all marked which is a shame, and I've got a feeling that the gentleman won't be moving below £5k. |

Quote:
Buy mid range tyres as the high performance ones especially contis will only last you 10k or less.

Worst thing about driving mine is the severe road noise... you can really hear the transition from a quiet patch of tarmac to a noisier one. And if you're unlucky enough to have to drive on a concrete road surface forget about having a chat! I think it's the harsh R-Design suspension and low-profile tyres. Does look great though.
Two of my original Ixion wheels were very badly kerbed and corroded, so I waited until the tyres were worn and replaced them with a nearly new replacement set of later wheels and tyres bought for £800. I keep meaning to refurb the bad pair to use that original set with winter tyres. The tyres do seem to wear quickly. Maybe it's a Continental thing? I bought an unused spare wheel from eBay. Lots on there.

Ooof. It's got uprated suspension - I didn't think of that - hmm. I live up a pretty rough farm track to be fair. Maybe a V60 isn't such a good idea after all?? Aw...

I tend to average 48-50 mpg in mine, mainly motorway miles though.

The suspension is also lowered, so maybe not ideal?

Have you considered an SE or Business edition? Not as low as an R Design, but a bit more comfortable.
