Out of interest, the block on your car is four cylinders from the 5 cylinder 2.5 Volvo block (2435 cc) found in the 850 and early V70. Kerry

Hello everyone,
I'm a noob here and wanted to ask for some help from more experienced users. Couple of days ago I bought a 1997 Volvo V40 which was supposed to have 2.0 engine. But it appears that engine was swaped to 1.8 (at least I guess so). Could anyone tell me more about my engine from it's number (specs, year, etc.). Engine number is: B4184S881378 Tried to have a look on Vadis but no luck. Anyway, thanks a lot in advance Last edited by kaiser; Jan 20th, 2008 at 19:40. |

yes that is an 1800 but maybe it had a second hand cam belt cover . The same number should be stamped in the block at the rear, the bulkhead side at the cam belt end

I wouldnt go by feel , a V40 2 litre "feels" like an 1800 all the time to me, it's not exactly a rocket . See if you can find the stamping in the top of the block which sticks out on the edge under No. one cyliner exhaust port ....
