Wow, helpful man. @Michael, the answer you're looking for here is "Yes please" - there's not much that this guy doesn't know about these cars, his is in showroom condition.

Wow, thank you very much for your offer, I am overwhelmed.

No doubt about it. So kind.

You all making me speechless.

First of all, a very big thank you to all of you, you helped me a lot to get through this.

My Volvo is fine again.

If you are interested what happend yesterday, here is the story:

My moose and I have been reunited since 1:00 p.m. yesterday and I treated him to a 300km run through the Scottish Highlands.

It was an exciting day yesterday.
After breakfast I tried to call the workshop.
Unfortunately, you have to search for a garage by yourself, my insurance said.
With the help of our UK Volvonauts, I found an independent Volvo workshop just 2.5km from the roadside assistance depot.

No answering machine, no one answers. Okay, I'll try again at 9:00 a.m.
But I wasn't successful there either.
Called the breakdown service. They said the workshop didn't open until 10 a.m. and was well known. Furthermore, my Volvo probably has major engine damage
So first i packed everything up and checked out of the hotel. Hoping that everything turns out well.

10 a.m.: no one in the workshop answers.

Read the VF-UK again and somewhere there was an entry saying that Dougie was difficult to reach.
So I took a taxi and drove the 9km there.

10:50 a.m.:
Workshop is open. Ugh. Good.
Dougie was born in 1953, so he's not the youngest anymore, but you can't tell by looking at him. Totally nice and competent.

We talk about what happened on Saturday and he suspects that if there is no water damage, the camshaft sensor too.

Then his crucial question: When will you have your moose brought over?
Great, despite the busy day he wants to take care of my moose. Fantastic.

tell him that I tried to reach him by phone. He says, with a slight smile, why we still need a landline today, since there is mobile communications (he's in his late 60s!). His landline hasn't worked for a long time. But his mobile number cannot be found online. He gives me his cell phone number without being asked.

I called the breakdown service to see if they could bring the car over.
If I order this, I have to pay it, if the insurance company orders it, they pay it.

So I called the German number: after 45 minutes on hold, I hung up and called their English correspondent. After only 4 minutes I had an employee on the phone. Explained the situation to her and she promised to take care of it.

11:17 a.m.:
5 minutes later I get a call back saying I can expect the car at the workshop at 1:30 p.m.

Tell Dougie. Fits, he says.

12:06 p.m.:
The English correspondent calls me:
The Volvo is running again. Me: Totally confused and check twice more to make sure I didn't mishear or they're confusing the car.

I call Dougie and tell him I'm running over.
Him: Nonsense, I'll drive you over there quickly.
I politely decline at first, but he repeats his offer so I don't
I no longer dare to reject this.

We had a nice chat during the trip and he and I shared a few personal things.
At the end I ask him what I owe him.
Answer: "Nothing, that's our Scottish hospitality."
And he immediately adds: “Please come over immediately, we’ll read out the errors and look at them again.”

I'm now standing in a small emotional confusion of disbelief, happiness and relief in front of my moose, which is roaring calmly and evenly at 850 rpm. I have rarely been so happy about the 10V sound.

A young Scot greets me, it turns out that he has been looking after my moose. Even though the ignition distributor was dry on the outside, he dismantled it and found moisture on the inside, removed it and cleaned the contacts. He also found water in the oil. So they did an oil change. How this got in is a mystery.

No matter, changing the oil with 5l Castrol 5W-40 only costs me 35GBP, or €41
At the moment I don't care why there are now 5 liters instead of 4.8.

I offer him a tip. Does he refuse:
That's part of Scottish hospitality.
He also thought my Scotland sticker on the back of the rear window was cool; I must be a real Scotland fan. We can only support that.
Thank my happy face enough, he says. He doesn't want wine either (I always have a few bottles of good white wine with me, just for cases like this), nor does he want whisky.

So he gets a warm hug :cuddle: from me, which also visibly touches him.

I then took the Volvo back over to Volvomax.

Dougie finds it exciting to sit on the left side of the car. He doesn't know that either, he says as he drives into the workshop.

He and an employee looked after the Volvo for about 20 minutes, had the Venturi system explained by me and informed me that everything was fine and no errors had been saved.

I thank him very much and ask him again what I owe him.
Nothing, Scottish hospitality was the answer again.

This time I give him a Grauburger Spätlese (very good White wine), he is happy and gives me a 5cl miniature 15 year old Glenfiddich in return.

Crazy.

Incredibly touched, relieved and happy, I drive from the garage to the hotel to get my things.

Believe me, my eyes watered more than once.

Roadside assistance: Thomas Ash, Glasgow
Workshop: Volvomax, Glasgow

Also a big thank you to all of you who helped me here!

(Story translated by google, same story posted in German language in the German speaking Volvo-Forum)

P.S.: Dougie was very happy hearing that he is recommended here.

Glad you managed to get the car repaired. If you are in the West of Scotland this weekend there is a Volvo meeting at Inveraray and Glencoe on Sunday which you are more than welcome to attend

Cars from Glasgow area are meeting at Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch on Sunday morning at 07:30am, then driving in convoy to Inveraray to meet the others. Unsure if the A83 will be open on Sunday or if we will have to go up the side of Loch Lomond. The day is as image map below

What an excellent result!

I haven't done it myself but one day I hope to drive at least some of the North Coast 500
