Default tyre size

Hello

My v70 2.5T is currently running on 185/65 R15 all round.

I need new rear tyres, and looking in the handbook it says my model should have 205/55 R15 87W or 185/65 R15 M+S. I've Googled what M+S means and its mud and snow.

So when I come to changing rear tyres, should I really be fitting 205/55? I want an all year round tyre, not a winter one.

Would I be ok with new 205/55 on the rear but the old 185/65 on the front?

Hi Alpine

Those tyre sizes don't seem right to me. Maybe your handbook is for a different car.

Do you have 15 or 16 inch rims?

Do you have a sticker inside the petrol filler flap? What sizes does it indicate there?

I think 195/60/15 is more common for 15 inch rims.

If you go to https://www.kwik-fit.com/tyres or https://www.blackcircles.com/ what do they suggest for your registration number?

Steve

According to the handbook I have the turbo cars should have[with 15" brakes]205/55R15 87W or 205/50R16 87W. The winter tyre size is 185/65R15 M+S
With 16" brakes 205/50R16 87W and winter size 205/50R16 M+S.

Brakes? I think you might mean rims.....

All I can say is that in the handbook it's worded as 15" or 16" brakes so whether they lost something in the translation or not I don't know.

I would love a 16'' brake upgrade. The stopping power would be awesome 😀

Just checked my handbook, also says 15" or 16" brakes, presumably is short for 'cars fitted with brakes that fit under 15" (or 16") rims'.

When I got my V70 it was also on 185/65 15s all season tyres, presumably because they're a bit cheaper than 195/60s (and a lot cheaper than 205/55s in Alpine's case), the other chart in the book also suggests the Turbo might be on 6.5J rims rather than the 6J rims on my NA car.

cheers all, my handbook says as Dippydog says, which is turbo cars with 15" brakes/wheels should have 205/55R15 87W or the winter tyre size is 185/65R15 M+S.

Its the T5 that has the 16" brakes/wheels

Blackcircles does bring up 195s but that seems to be wrong

205/55R15 87W are very rare, in fact only Vredestien seem to do them at £180 per tyre ! 205/55R15 88V are available for about £80 per tyre but the speed rating doesn't quite match the handbook - does that really matter as I think V is okay to 150mph and I won't be doing that!
