I'm not as immortal as I used to be, hence Volvo's rather than bikes

That said, I do have a 1983 Yamaha TT600 in bits awaiting a rebuild. It's a US market enduro variant of the XT of that era. I managed to seize it a year or two back and have been a bit tardy about sorting a repair. I can see a Wiseco piston & liner in it's future

I`m familier with the TT`s, are there magnesium cases on those, the earlier TT500`s were, very light they were too.

Yes indeed, the external cases are magnesium. It probably was light for it's time, but it's a fair old lump - probably a bit too heavy for the woeful front drum brake at times.

I used 2 stroke oil in my last car, a D5 163 XC70. There is a lot of information on the VW forums about this; the general concensus is that you should use mineral 2 stroke at a ratio of 200:1, not synthetic.
I found that my car immediately ran much quieter (other people commented on this as well) and seemed smoother and more pleasant at low revs. If there was an improvement in MPG, it was not really noticeable on a day to day basis but there was a definite improvement of 5% on long runs. I used it for almost 3 years until I sold the car earlier this year, emissions at MoT time were way down; the tester commented that it was one of the cleanest cars he had ever tested.
I have not dared put any into the tank of my current DPF fitted car, I have read that it is ok to do so, but I would like to hear directly from someone who has tried it before I do.

Watching this thread with interest with respect to adding 2-stroke oil. I've never come across it before. I did once add Red-Ex Diesel treatment in my first ever diesel car in the late 1980's - a 1.6 Escort D GL but didn't note any specific difference.

The only problem is, I have a DPF on my D5.

More info here: they suggest that it is ok with a DPF

I've been using it in my DPF D5 for about 10k, can't say I've noticed an improvement in MPG or responsiveness, but I've not had any adverse effects....yet.
I read a fair few posts about it and DPFs. It would seem to burn hotter than diesel and therefore helps produce less soot and (I think) the higher temps also help keep the DPF clean.

Mine does get a 1000 miles round trip, "Italian tune" run every four to five weeks so maybe that's why I never see the "soot filter full" sign

I pay about £2.30 for a litre, so it does three tanks full. At that cost, and because I haven't had any bad side effects, I'm going to keep using it
