Yet Another Map Update

1240 available for those who like to update early. can happily be ignored if you don't.

have not tried installing in the car, but have verified that the version downloading is 1240 (at least for me it is)

Best to leave it for a few days so they can get it right. Volvo IT usually **** it up first.

Are these constant map updates actually more than camera updates?

I've updated both voice and map on the Volvo yesterday for the first time in 12 months and don't intend doing so again for another 12 months unless there is some absolutely fundamental change in the systems.

Tried updating the Garmin system fixed to my 2015 Honda CR-V this evening and thought it would be relatively straightforward, although I knew it was to be far more complex than for the Volvo.

After reading the instruction on Garmin online, I bought a 16GB memory stick, which is apparently the only suitable size and the only size I didn't have. Amazon Prime to the rescue with a genuine Toshiba USB flash drive for £3.96 delivered within 12 hours, free. Now as I understood it Garmin instructions and from the videos, which are mainly American, but their units look exactly the same as ours apart from the buttons on the opposite side, I am meant to plug in the empty USB and then start the car and go to Settings, Devices, Map Update and it will recognise the USB after selecting the map update, which then puts a verification code onto the USB stick. This is then transferred to a computer and a previously downloaded Garmin Installer will transfer the map to the Flash Drive and thereafter it is plugged into the car, the Update Map icon pressed again, then the car started and kept running until the map is installed.

However this does not seem applicable to mine. Settings, Devices, then nothing. No device or map update icon.
Garmin give five years of free map updates for Honda. Mine is three and I intended updating again just before its fifth birthday.

I noticed that most US and Japanese Hondas seem to use the same Here maps as Volvo. As it stands though, the Volvo system is altogether far easier to update and use and it's also less garish. The Garmin is extremely sophisticated though but the display and colouring is rather toy like.

1240 installed without any issues. About 30 mins to download to USB (but I am on a fast connection) and about 45 mins to install in car on this mornings trip.

Same here, mine usually does the upload OTA but the 1240 update was marked as 'too big' for auto update (2.4gb) so I downloaded it to USB and installed it without problem yesterday.

Downloaded the NW Europe file to USB this morning and I noted that the file size was 2.67 GB as opposed to previous downloads which, I think, were 1.92 GB. This is quite an increase in size. Anyone fathomed out what is included in this update to caused such an increase?
