Default Good suspension upgrade for volvo 144

Hello, i just got myself a beautiful 1974 volvo 144 but it handles really badly because the suspension is completely original.
I would quite like to add shock absorbers to the rear and i will probably put a better set up in the front. I dont want the car to be like a race car. I want to keep it feeling fairly original but less body roll. What do you all reccomend for rear shocks and what do you recommend for the front.

Much thanks in advance, Alex

Because I don't know what products are available near you nor at what price-point ... I suggest it's probably worth finding a decent suspension specialist. They don't even have to be world-beaters, but they should be able to suggest the usual things one does to the suspension (replacement anti-roll bars, replacement bushes, replacement shocks & replacement springs) to give you better handling with basically the same ride-comfort.

Your problems may even be related to worn-out consumables (eg. bushes & shocks - but even things like steering linkages), and you might even find that replacing that stuff with standard-specification parts make you happy. A good suspension shop should be able to tell you what part of the "poor handling" is due to worn parts, vs. what can be fixed by using parts with different specs.

Actually, last time I looked into it, greater London had a decent-sized population? Chances are there's someone around here who can recommend a good suspension specialist?

Suggest you post in the dedicated 140 series sub forum, you’ll likely get more input there.
