Default 1979 245 carb- looking to convert to LPG

Hello all;
I have a 1979 245 with an automatic, so needless to say my MPG is rather poor.
I've been considering an LPG conversion for some time- but I want to keep my loadspace- so I think I need a vertical tank in the spare wheel well.

The car is immaculate- one of the best, and has had lots of money spent on it.

Does anyone know of someone who has done this conversion before, and how much it should cost? Hopefully as its only a 175CDUS carb,(stromberg) it only needs the 'old fashioned ring' system.

I do about 1500 miles a month and get about 22mpg at present.

Is it worth doing? I'm looking at it in the long-term. If LPG goes to the price of petrol by 2011, it may not be worthwhile.

Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

not so amny of the big bumper 240's on the road now. I have conveted quite a few 240's to LPG of all ages. We currently have 3 estates and 2 salones in our family fleet. At the moment we still have a 1980 244 with us for a mechanical refurb and conversion.

The vertical spare wheel tank is neatest way to go but a tad expensive. I still get just under 200 miles from a tank but with more sensible driving it is possible to get about 220 from a tank full.

You are right that the car will only need a simple mixer ring induction system as it is a carb engine.

If you want to discuss full details give me a call on 07824887160
