Default 360 with B230ET engine

Hi
I'm new here and have signed up because I have a 1986 360GLE 2l feul injected (It's my first car and I love it). But it's just a bit too slow uphill for my liking, it's great on the flat though. So I have just bought a 4cylinder 2.3L turbo B230ET engine to stick in it. The new engine has only done 111,000 kms has no leaks and is in great condition a bargain for $400NZ (less than 200 pounds).
My questions are:
1. will the 360 gearbox be able to take it (114hp - 182hp is a big difference)
2. Will I need stronger engine mounts?
3. Will I need stronger feul lines?
4. What else will I have to change/upgrade?
Thanks

The gearbox is no problem. The weak point is the torque tube but they are ok with a midly tuned turbo.

Engine mounts you can use the 360 one on the inlet side but the exhaust side needs to use a 240/740 one with the bracket welded to the tube the ARB mounts to.

Fuel lines should be ok again pump should be ok. Most 360's that are converted to Turbo started as carb engine in which case they need fuel lines fitting and the FI fuel pump.

Thanks Classicswede.
Also the engine is from an auto so apart from a flywheel what else will I need to get it to take the manual gearbox?
Is it true I will need a different ECU?
Where do I get the parts from because New Zealand has NOTHING when it comes to european cars.

you need the ecu and loom that came with the B230ET engine,
aswell as the flywheel you might need a pilot bearing from a b200fk because some of the 2.3's had a solid one and it will just chew it up, after that i thin you just need the manual clutch as the rest of the stuff(box etc) is 360, the B230ET lump will bolt straight up to the 360 bell housing but you will need to cut a notch out for the cps as it bolts diffrent, you will need to modifie the oil return andmaybe cut a notch out of the mount for it to fit, obvs use 360 mounts and they will work fine, fule lines should be ok but dont tae my word for it

cheers

I was under the impression you needed a custom manifold when adding a turbo to a 300?

And I hate to say this but you kinda bought the wrong engine with the ET. You'll have a heck of a job finding the correct ET manual flywheel (took me over 3 months in the UK). Unless they are more prolific in NZ.

Having said that, if the 2.0 in the car is a B200E then there is a possibility the flywheel is the correct one already (in the end I got mine off a 240's B230E). See attached, the correct (Motronic) flywheel has that raised nub seen at the 11 o'clock position on the outer edge, as opposed to the other one (LH2.4).

Did the engine come with the air flow meter too?

Would now be a bad time to mention that I chucked away a Motronic flywheel about a year ago...? I thought there would never be a requirement for one

A 360's B200E flywheel is not the right one - it's more like a LH one (but the timing pattern is different). Baggy - did you find a flywheel with the 'nub' on a B230E? Interesting! They don't have a pickup there, but perhaps they just fitted the same flywheel for convenience?

You could convert the ET engine to run FT (i.e. LH2.4) management from a 940 (or late 240 or 740)...or track down the ET bits.

The driveline should take it (and more)...it's mainly down to how you drive it. It's not particularly strong, so hard launches and clutch kicking are not a great idea. A guy here was putting north of 300bhp through one though, so it's possible to go fast if you're not going to drive like an ape. If you want to use if for drifting, etc, you are likely to need to do some reinforcing work.

cheers

James

I got it from the guy on this thread. But reading the first post again, it appears the car originally came with a 2.0 then had a reconditioned B230E 'blue' block fitted, so I must have just got lucky.

Yeah...I don't *think* it would have had the "pegged" flywheel originally, but it's a curious one...

cheers
