V70 D5 Rear Engine Mount....

Hi Guys,
Tried to change all 3 lower engine mounts at the weekend ie 2 x vacuum mounts plus the mount next to the crank pulley. It went well BUT getting on to the bottom bolt of the rear vacuum mount was nigh on impossible. I got a spanner on it but it was very tight and I was in such a contorted position on my back with my arm threaded through the exhaust support cross plate that I couldn't give it enough welly to undo it. The spanner slipped off, I swore a bit and thought I'm going to really knacker the bolt head so I beat a retreat back into the house. Anybody got any ideas please? Simon's youtube video covers the job from start to finish but I'm not sure about this damned bottom bolt!

If it isn't the AWD version then you can get the bolt comfortably with a 3/8" drive flex head ratchet (such as the Britool E031702) and a shallow 14mm socket. Ideally the socket should be 6 point

use a six point socket less chance of sliping off and rounding the nut.

All the best ! I had to use a wooden wedge and a crowbar to flex the roll bar a bit to even get the socket through the gap and also a universal joint is needed, and I have an inspection pit .

Brother-in-law had a 1/4" set with a 14 nut. I think I didn't even have a universal joint on it.

@Dancake, I thought the AWD only had problems in getting it (the engine mount) past the RWD-shaft? I didn't find getting the bolt loose that difficult (thanks to the 1/4" set). But getting it past the driveshaft was another story... (lifted the engine-block as far as it would go with a jack to get some wiggling room).

Thanks guys, I appreciate all your help. Some very good advice - in hindsight I could have thought a little harder when I was under the car but after doing the other 2 I was running short of time and patience!

FCP euro has got a video on this that makes the job look super easy. Well it’s not. If you follow their instruction AND lower the subframe a couple of cm it becomes very doable.

The video I looked at with FC Puro stated a 15 mm bolt ( which for me was 14mm ) and never showed the sub frame lowered !

I am currently changing all mounts on my v70 awd 2004 and find it very difficult to get the rear vaccum mount out. How did you do it? All other mounts were quite easy with the help of wd40
