Yes "GARNET" I would say actually is also a great description of Flamenco Red

key "garnet color" (without the "u") to see some google gem pictures in this colour

It wouldn't be Garnet (called 'Garnet Red Pearl' by Volvo), that was a colour only available on the bigger Swedish and Belgian built cars between MY1997 and 1999.

I don't think any of the Dutch built cars were painted in the same colours as the rest of the range.

I only looked at this thread for the first time today and as I am considering buying an XC60, the nine pages of views and comments have been very interesting and helpful to me - my thanks to all. Congratulations on the new car Steve - looks beautiful - and hope it is still serving you well three months on.
One thing I would be very keen to do is to garage the new car. My garage entrance, pillar to pillar, is 7' wide but the door mechanism reduces that to 6' 7". In theory, the car should go in with the mirrors retracted but in practice it looks like a recipe for an accident! Is your garage more than 7' wide. Do you find it tricky to manoeuvre the XC in and out?
The comments on Geartronic and the difference between D5 and D3 have also been very interesting. I have experienced very smooth auto gearboxes - why does anyone bother with manual hassle these days??? lol - and I wonder if a "hunting" gearbox would be annoy me. Perhaps this problem is the reason some of you guys out there don't like autos??
Anyway, still a toss up between an XC60 and an X3 - the research goes on...!

My garage doors are the same width as yours. With mirrors folded, the XC60 is a snug fit and it did take a little while to learn where to position the car to avoid disaster.

My advice would be to do as we did; stop by your house during the test-drive and try the car for size!

My garage is enormous and could just about take 2 Focus size cars side by side or a Bentley (and a quarter)..!! length ways - so no problem there for me apart from the fact the garage is full of junk - so even I struggle to squeeze myself in...lol..lol

Re the geartronics auto boxes , some people like them some dont - it does depend what you are used to.I like autos in general although whilst the XC geartonic was smooth and responsive - I didnt like the fact I felt it in too low a gear when doing 30mph and when going up a slight incline I found the gearbox changed down then back up then down again depending.Same on cruise control.

You really need to have an XC60 drive as what suits one may not suit another....If you take on board my views and opinions you will end up with a manual (with which you may not be happy if your an auto person) or if you take others opinions on board who praise geartronic and get geartronic auto you may find that whilst you like autos and need or want an auto - the XC may be the wrong vehicle for you because of this.

I do believe your decison re the gearbox will be instant when you test each one.

Measurements are I believe as below

HEIGHT 1713 mm
LENGTH 4627mm
WIDTH 1891mm
WIDTH INC MIRRORS 2120

1 millimeter = 0.0393700787 inches so I believe that is 74 and a third inches for the width of the XC60 which I think is a bit over 6ft wide!

So on my reckoning if you pop your XC60 into your 6ft wide available gap you will end up with .....

"garage mechanism go faster stripes down the side"

Good luck with your research
Regards

Just to put this point to rest Steve, when you say your doors are 7' wide do you have all 7' to play with for that snug fit or do you have any door-opening apparatus narrowing the width (in my case, narrowing them by 5")? If I need all 7', then I'll need a new opener, possibly new door too. Thanks.

Up until MY 2011.5 (about November 2010) the XC60 had a "pod" or small screen on top of the dashboard that showed audio information etc. Cars without sat nav didn't have a screen above the heating controls. The latest model has no pod and displays all info on. 5" or 7" screen. The what car test last month has a "podded" car, the pics at the start of this thread show a podless dash.

Confirmed - I have all 7' to play with at mirror level. There is a small strip protruding about 3/4" on each door post closer to the ground but they don't get in the way.

With mirrors folded, there's about 2.5" to 3" on each side between mirror and door post. Given that the mirrors fold flush with the bodywork, that's a snug fit with little room for error.

Sounds like your garage door will need some work.
