Looking at the list of cars he designed, I see this as a good thing

This is truly awesome news. I was worried when Mattin left, and I really do like his designs but Horbury's previous car list is undeniably good.

I was very worried about Volvo's future when I heard the news of Mattin's departure but I am glad now, as I am a huge fan of Peter's work. You also have to bear in mind some of the stuff Mattin has on his CV such as the Merc R-Class didn't look very promising! I did although like very much what he did with the XC60 and S60 Concept, but that big bling Volvo iron symbol was a step too far I feel.

Peter Horbury is a much better man for evolving the brand's design language. He understands the brand much better and knows how to make a Volvo recognisable as a Volvo. The brand was going from strength-to-strength under his 11 year tenure and I hope he can repeat that magic achieved like he did with cars like the C70 and S80 during the 90's.

Sounds good! Not that keen on some of the newer Volvo models/concepts and as Volvophile mentions the gigantic badges eurgh. Seems like the cars are becoming a little bland so they have to plaster the manufacturers name all across it so people remember which car it is. Is it an Audi? A Mondeo? A Jag? Oh it says V O L V O. With a gigantic medallion on the front

There's a very long and interesting thread on swedespeed forums about Mattin and Horbury and Horbury is generally considered to be the fave designer of the two
