Recomendations for stereo upgrade.
Hi
Still have the old radio cassette setup in my 940, any suggestions for up grading without spending a fortune, dont have any front door speakers, just rears and dash. Would like to fit speakers in the front doors as well. Cheers. |

Are you happy to lose the head unit for another modern one etc?
If so by a pioneer , They offer a lot of good power for the money change dash speakers for same size but better quality , same for back |

Since I last spoke to you I have swapped the head unit over for a later slightly more powerful one and it does sound slightly better. The new one is still only a cheap Kenwood one from Halfords but benifits from being about 15 years newer !
On late 940's the speakers fitted as standard are actually of reasonable quality. Thats if the haven't got damp ! If you already have the speaker grills and cut outs in the front doors a cheap option would be to fit standard 940 speakers. The later ones with tweeters are the best. Your early dash speakers are proper speakers, later 940's had tweeters fitted here as well so you could choose which you like best. When you say rear speakers are they in the doors or on the rear shelf in a saloon ? |

Standard Volvo head units are the best you can get !
I was going to say if it's a saloon it might be easier to fit better ones on the parcel shelf.
I think if you start by getting a new head unit things will be better just because you can play CD's, lots have Ipod and USB connections (whatever they are ;-) and it might be woth looking at one that pick up digital radio. Fitting later 940 speakers will be an improvement if they fit and there was an accessory kit available from Volvo to fit 740's, so speakers can be fitted to the front doors. I thought others might have interesting views about whats good or not and added something, perhaps if I said something like you must keep the standard stereo as they are the best it might get noticed ! |
