Default Airbag/SRS light Question Please

Hi everybody, looking for more help Please.

I have a Volvo W Registration V70 2000 Classic 2.5 Petrol model, which I call a MK1 Model due to its flat sided body shell.

Here is my question please:-

The Airbag/SRS Light will not go out, I have taken the car to my local garage but his Diagnostic Equipment is not registering any faults with the Airbag system.

I have been told this can be caused by something as simple as moving the seat Position’

Any help or advice would be most welcome.

Many thanks for any help

Regards

Paul

Pre-2001 cars may not be fully compatible with generic diagnostic code readers, and this may be something that you'll need to go either to a Volvo specialist, or to a main dealer for. You can't assume at this stage that because your garage found no faults that they are in fact right.

The car clearly thinks that something is wrong with the SRS system, which may or may not be the case. Either way it would fail an MOT with the light on.

If it is the case that nothing's up, just that the system is having a strop then very possibly you can sort this simply by disconnecting the battery for 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure you know the radio code though! It may or may not do the trick, but it's worth a try.

If the light still shows then you'll need to find someone with the correct diagnostic reader to be able to tell you why the light is showing. You can't really afford to ignore it.

It is possible I guess that in moving the seat wiring to the SRS system has been damaged, but bearing in mind that it is possible to set off an airbag accidentally by fiddling with the wiring then it 's really best left to the experts.

Cheers

Jack

You need to find someone with VIDA software running on a laptop connected to the car via DiCE interface box, this combination will read the car perfectly well and should highlight where the car isn't happy with the SRS system.

The front seats both contain SIPS airbags that on the 99- cars are fired electronically, the connector is a small green and purple two pin plug on the underside of each seat, worth a quick look to make sure these are both connected. In addition on the drivers seat is a small two pin grey plug that is for the seat belt buckle switch, if this is disconnected it will cause the SRS caption to illuminate.

Sadly plugging a loose/ disconnected plug back in won't clear the SRS caption, it still needs Vida/ DiCE to reset the system, quite a few members on here have this software/ hardware, the trick is to find someone local (ish) who is willing to connect up to your car have a look at This Thread to find out if there is anyone local, alternate is to go to one of the owner meets that is localish as usually there is someone there with the kit and willing to use it.

A generic OBD-II scanner is of no use on a 2000MY Classic, you need Vida/ DiCE - Mike

Hi, sent this message earlier this morning, but seems to have gone adrift somewhere.

AirBag/SRS light Problem now fixed, problem was plug connection under passenger seat.

Now sorted and SRS light is out.

Many thanks to all for help and advice.

Regards

Paul.
