Default Stupid mistake (petrol/diesel confusion)

D'oh!!!!!

Managed to put about 8 litres of unleaded into my V70 D5 tonight, before realising what I was doing. This was followed by swearing a lot, and filling the rest of the tank (another 58 litres) with diesel, as I recall reading that a reasonably small amount of petrol won't really cause any problems for a modern diesel.

Given the fairly small ratio of petrol to diesel (8 litres in a full tank of diesel) I'm hoping I might get away with just running it through, topping up with diesel every hundred miles or so to increasingly dilute the petrol. Am I being hopelessly optimistic? Should I get the thing flushed through? Or am I likely to be OK?

A family member filled his new diesel Jag with petrol and drove away. Broke down and taken to a dealer where it cost approx £2500. More surprisingly he tells us his insurance company paid it!!!!

Well, having spoken to Volvo UK, a couple of dealers and an independent this morning, their reactions ranged from "You're screwed, mate" (Volvo UK) to "Just run it through as normal and keep topping up with diesel, and you'll be absolutely fine" (a Volvo dealer). Hmmm.

Anyway, I didn't think it was worth the risk of just leaving it to run through, so as we speak it's at my local indie Volvo specialist for a tank drain, clean-out, flush-through and fuel filter replacement. (Which is just what one of the Volvo dealers recommended, but at around half the cost that they quoted for the job!)

Any recommendations for a good fuel additive that I can stick into the next couple of tanks of diesel, to make sure the injectors get a good cleaning?
