Default which engine oil

this was a good read below

http://www.amsoil.com/performancetes...spx?zo=1394265

they also claim :

First to develop an API-rated 100 percent synthetic motor oil.
First to introduce the concept of "extended drain intervals" with a recommended 25,000-mile/1-year drain interval.
First U.S. company to utilize the NOACK volatility test as a standard of performance excellence.
First to produce synthetic motor oils for diesel engines, racing engines, turbo and marine engines.
First to introduce synthetic oils that legitimately contribute to improving fuel efficiency.
First to manufacture synthetic gear lube for automotive use.
First to manufacture a 100:1 pre-mix synthetic 2-cycle oil.
First to manufacture a synthetic automatic transmission fluid for automotive use.

ive never used them to be honest.they must be worth looking into.

Salt. Pinch. Large.

They are just a Blender. They buy-in all their base-stocks and additives from the oil/additive majors. It's not unusual for such companies to make such wild claims but they're seldom, if ever, justified. Their statement "AMSOIL has gained more experience than any other oil company in formulating automotive synthetic lubricants". Is just plain silly and means what, precisely ? Almost impossible to verify or disprove so a nice example of weasel words posing as technical facts.

Could go on but can't be bothered.

Yer pays yer money and takes yer chance.

This post really does need answering.

I take it that all the '1st to ....' claims are accepted otherwise not only would Amsoil be sued by the US trading standards but also by any other oil company who thought they where the 1st in any of these areas.

Amsoil are not 'just blenders' they are accepted as pioneers and authorities on the production of the very best synthetic oils. If, as perhaps suggested it was as easy and simple to just blend a few products bought in from other companies then everyone would do it and there would be little to choose between all the products. It is certainly not the case which is how Amsoil can lead the way with this list of 1sts and how their 35 years of experience solely in the production and improvement of synthetics enables them to produce the best products.
If you are after facts that are quantifiable then simply go to Amsoil .com and on the left side in yellow background are pfd files of 2 of the largest and most recent tests of oils. Do take time to read them rather than scoff at them. These are hard fact, they are not only this but must also be independent, verifiable and repeatable as required by US law. All oils are not equal. To have the ability to select the very best additives and to continually move about and improve is an advantage that the Majors do not have, for they are generally stuck with what they produce which may not be the very best or lead to the very best product. Amsoil came up with 'long life oils long before there was a need yet now they are becoming an ever greater requirement, customer led. If they produce oils that are good for 35,000 miles this is a fact as it there 500,000 mile gearbox oil (correct number of zeros)
But hey its a free world, don't believe me (or various GP , Lemans etc teams) just search the web and form your own opinions, just please don't come up with your own derogatory opinions that clearly aren't informed.
Amsoil are the best IMHO and we have imported a few brands, (but I am keeping an open mind on Synlube!)

You are however correct on one point. You pay your money and you take your choice.

All inventors of note who came up with firsts - don't think I'd buy any of their products based solely on that fact.
