Radio cassette amplifier
I have a 1994 940s estate. Unfortunately, the previous owner decided to try to get the radio to work by cutting all of the wires, so I have no plugs on any of the wires to put into the back of the radio. Should there be an amplifier ???If so, how do I know which one I need to get ? I've seen a couple on Ebay but I'm not sure which one to get ? They are both different sizes. Also, any idea where I could get the correct plugs ???? Any help will be much appreciated.

There were two radio cassettes fitted to this model. Let me know which radio head unit model number is fitted to your car. One is a single depth the other is a double depth fronted unit. The single depth unit has one 14pin connector with 11 wires, an aerial input and a din input. The other type is an integrated radio/amplifier with two connectors, one 14 pin with 13 wires, the other 10 pin with 8 wires.
I will send you the appropriate two pages from the wiring book for your car. There should be some radio information either at the back of the owners handbook or in a seperate booklet. The radio code should also be available. All the best, Peter. |

Just for info if the previous owner cut all the cables the chances are he left the amp behind it if is a single depth unit - the amp is under the steering column. you would need to remove the cover and probably a torch to find it - but whether you'll be able to connect to it if all the cables are cut .......

If the cables have been cut then it is probable that the full set of cables is still within the loom. How about a trip to the breakers hard for a 'rummage' and cut off the required cable connectors with a suitable length of cable attached. Wiring looms are not always a high priority for the breakers to keep intact.

Thanks for all your help with this. The wires have been cut just behind the radio itself so all I really need is the plugs. It is a single depth unit with 1 x 14 pin plug, 1 x 10 pin plug and a din plug marked amp. The unit model number is CR - 905.

940 radio/cassette
interesting comments on the cassette radios. I am getting poor reception on am (mw & lw) and suspect aerial cable and/or aerial amplifier (I have the aerial fitted as wires stuck to the rear nearside window of my 1997 esate. Can anyone advise where the aerial amp is please, so I can check it. Any other comments or advice on the symptoms would be much appreciated. Thanks, Derek Vivian

to gain access to the aerial amp remove the nearside carpet trim just below the window and you'll find a small metal box around 3" x 5" with 2 wires coming from the side window to it
