SRS Service
Whilst giving my car a good wash and polish the other day I noticed that the SRS system is now overdue its 10 yearly service. Obviously this will have to be a main dealer job but does anyone have any idea how much it's likely to cost. I still have a fair bit to do before this ie head gasket and MOT but I would like to know how much I should expect to pay before I book it in. The car is a '94 945 2.0 turbo S so only has drver's airbag and pyrotechnic seatbelt pre-tensioners.

I'm pretty sure volvo have now extended the so called service to either 12 or 15 years.
I cant really see what they can do in this service anyway as the airbag and seatbelt tensioners are sealed anyway, they could check the wiring I surpose but as long as the airbag check light comes on with the ignition and goes off what you start the car I wouldn't worry about it. There's not really much to fail on the system, the only thing which can and do fail on any car airbag systems is the steering wheel slip-ring but again this would bring on the airbag fault light

Sure I read something once about this 10 year interval having been extended to 15 to 20 years so your probably ok for a few more years yet. Not really sure how Volvo service an air bag without setting it off! defeats the object really in my opinion.

I understand that some of the components need to be replaced after a time due to material fatigue eg. perished rubber. If Volvo have found that these components are lasting longer than originally estimated, great.

I cant think what rubber could perish in the airbag system, there's none used as far as I know

Hi, I think it was the Airbag which was to be replaced at the 10yr interval. The interval was increased to 15 years according to item in Brickboard.com. As the bag is a pyrotechnic, it can be affected by storage conditions. The SRS system will check for electrical faults and identify them via the warning light if they occur. SRS System
I recently asked my local main dealer about SRS service and he told me that the service interval is now 15 years.

Thanks for the information. Looks like that's one less thing to do for the moment. What a pleasant change.
