Default More Problems

It gets better every day

Went out to my car this morning to take it to the garage and have the exhaust fixed (which has now been done), and was greeted by a HUGE puddle of water under the car. It had been parked for about 13 hours. It all came out of the coolant tank, which i topped up with more water, so it looks like the radweld hasnt done any good what so ever.

Its possible it may be one of the pipes, but having no mechanical knowledge at all doesnt help.

Just popped it into the local garage on the way back from having the exhaust done and they said they will look into the leak for me. There was nothing obvious when he just looked at it, so it seems to be a problem that occours when the engine is cold, but as i say, its being looked at tomorrow hopefully.

The exhaust is still blowing slightly too so im going to ask the tyre place if they actually sealed all the area's that they said they would, maybe they forgot one or two, but it does run much quieter and smoother now.

So im getting all my problems ironed out slowly but surely. But anyone can could offer advice on the radiator leak for when i take the car in tomorrow, would be appriciated

Thanks as always
James

rad leaks are usually silly things if it aint actually the rad

pipes split , seals corrode, joints loosen over years

split pipes are the most common fault though id say

yeah. on first inspection the pipe seems ok but cant really tell that much just by peering into the engine bay and try to look like i know what im doing

Hopefully it will be a cheap fix though

It could be the water pump, as they tend to leak when the engine isn't running

According to its service history, The Volvo has had FIVE replacement water pumps during its life, the last being in August 2003, not long before I bought it

Thankfully, 740 water pumps are cheap to buy (£26.50 from GSF Car Parts) and apparently dead easy to replace

If you have the engine splash pan on your car (its the large plastic tray at the bottom), just see which bit is wet. Should give you an idea of where the leak is coming from. If non of it is wet, I would suggest rad as thats not over the splash pan.

Just an idea.
