Default Noisy shock absorbers

I recently replaced all 04 shocks on my 1997 940 GLE Turbo. The fronts are gas filled and rear standard oil filled. After about 10 days the front shock absorbers have started to "squeak" as they go up and down through their travel range. The drivers side appears to be worse and only after the car has travelled a few miles (after the shocks have warmed up?).
This would appear to be coming from the gland seal where the piston rod goes into the capsule.
I am reluctant to lubricate the rod as this will only attract dirt and could cause premature failure of these shocks. The front shocks are Sachs, all 04 were purchased from GSF.
Has anyone had this experience and is there any advice on how to overcome this phenomenon?

Make sure that it is not down to dry suspension bushings including the top bushings (fixed at top, inside strut towers). I think there will be something about this in the FAQs.

Incidentally, why replace the shocks after so short a period? The fronts should have come with gaiters surrounding the rod to protect them from road dirt etc. Have they become pinched so that the rod rubs on them?

All the best, Peter.

Peter, I forgot to mention that I replaced the strut-tops at the same time (I didn't want to re-visit these later!) these are also from GSF. As to why the shocks needed replacing, you haven't seen the roads here in Sri Lanka!! The gaiters, by the way were non-existent on the drivers side and in pieces on the near side. I have to admit that the rear shocks weren't so bad, but as I had already invested in the replacements, I went ahead and changed these too.
