Extreme temps
Hello again, just a brief question, when should the elec. fan cut in on a 1.7 GLT turbo, mine isn't cutting in until the engine is turned off and only for a couple of seconds, I have seen temps of over 115, and it is really worring me.
I have a new thermostat and water pump to put in, but this is worrying me. I will be replacing the radiator aswell in the next couple of days. HELP!!!!!!! Regards Andi

Well, as I mentioned in another thread, I took out the 'custom' fan switch and reconnected the thermostat - however my gauge still isn't working! (Good job I don't need to drive her atm!). After about 15 minutes of idling with the radiator getting slightly hot the fan kicked in.
From Haynes: Fan switch on temp: 95 Fan switch off temp: 90 I don't *think* the turbo has the 2nd stage cooling fan. I may be wrong. Also, Auxiliary water pump switch on: 100 Switch off: 95 I'm interested in sourcing a lower rated stat for the fan. I've heard about a replacement one for 200 series over on turbobricks.com but not yet found one for the 400. |

Hello all, well I've dropped in a new rad (good used one ) and a 75'C rated 'stat that my local motar factor found, parnt number unknown but fits the housing perfectly, (will try to investigate) and all is now well, just a small question regarding what is the average running temp for the 1.7 turbo engine? It appears to be around 82'C give or take 3'C?
Thanks in advance
