Tow Bar
I would like to fit a tow bar for my garden trailer, however it is £225 to be fitted. For the age of the car it seems a bit expensive.
Does anyone know if you can buy second hand towbar plus electrics or does anyone know if fitting myself is an easy enough option. Any tow bar advice will be welcome. |

Hi,
Fitting the towbar itself is no big task. It is getting the electrics correct that takes a bit more though.. You maybe able to pick up a second hand one from a breaker. Try Slavo, Braydons or CP Motors. Or give partsgateway a search. Also worth considering is ebay for a new one - not fitted so you can DIY the fitting.. Des. . .

Just fitted a towbar to my 460, easy job the bumper has to come off and it fits onto the bumper mounts .
2 brackets fit onto the spare wheel well , 4 holes to drill but not a problem. I got mine from hedleys cost £104.00 all in with single electrics, easy job to do electrics as you can follow the wires onto pcb to the bulbs. |

could not attach image under personal message to you but can when I just reply. This is what the owner had to say regards his 460 tow bar . I did however try the towbar on the 440. The bumper mountings lined up ok, the only diffrence is the two side arms that bolt to the wheel well in the boot are longer. There is two sets of holes on the side brackets, the end ones were used on the 460, so maybe the inner ones were for a 440? All the wiring for the sockets is the same colours as used on the rear wiring loom so should be easy enough to wire up. Here's a pic, the 460 mountings are the holes on the end with the bolts in, the second set of holes can be seen slightly further forward. Look forward to hearing from you. |

Mine only had one pair of holes on they end of each bracket.
I am sure the spare wheel well area , chassis and floor pan are the same for both 460 and 440. The only difference might be age a 1992 towbar might not fit a 1994/5 model, but Iam not sure. Not a big job to try on , bumper easy removed. Last edited by jeff t; Feb 24th, 2008 at 11:22. |
