Default Volvo Amazon P1800 Hub Pullers Available

Hi everyone. I have just started making hub pullers for the volvo amazon and p1800 if anyone is interested.

These hub pullers are of the highest quality and have been made using quality en8 steel. They are not made from any old steel welded up but machined from solid bar. The Body is welded to the flange and has been welded to the highest quality by a top quality engineering welder. The welding is grade one and looks like artwork.

You will not be disappointed with the quality, they are in my opinion better than any other puller on the market anywhere.

The five holes have been machine slotted out slightly to cope with different size hole centres for other vehicles if needed but they have been made to cope with the amazon and P1800. The threaded bar has a dimple on the end to locate in the centre of the half shaft to give positive location, although the force is still on the end of the threaded bar where it should be.

Included is a stainless steel extension pipe for that extra pull which is often needed.

I made one for myself and it looked that good and performed effortlessly I have now decided to commission more to be made. They are made on a cnc machine so all hub pullers will be identical.

I shall include some pictures shortely but for the time being they will be listed on ebay as from tonight if i get time.

As far as price goes i shall see what ebay has to say first as these are not cheap to produce, so i may end up making them for love rather than money.

Would be nice to have an idea on price. I'm lucky and abtained a very well made puller with one of my cars. The cheap pullers about at the moment are not upto the job of shifting a well stuck on hub.

I do stock and sell these. Swedish made, good quality, last for many years, indeed I have not seen a wornout one yet! £42.50 plus Vodka-And-Tonic and postage.

As promised. The photos of the pullers. I slotted the holes out to cope with other cars that may be able to use this. The puller fits bang on in the middle of the slots and locates with only a couple of mm of play. Someone emailed me and thought that the puller would not seat centraly. This is not the case.

Lovely welds, looks like somebody who knew what they were doing built
that little gem! Price is not everthing, the way a tool looks and feels in one's hand and the ease with which it accomplishs the task means more to a lot of folks than just money. Snap On tools in the US puts out an extensive line of
mechanics tools that are really the standard of excellance. They are guaranteed for life and command a very premium price. They are also the tools you see more in pro workshops than any other. The guys who buy and use them aren't normally independently wealthy, just working guys who know that in the long run initial quality will out perform. Don't discourage a guy that
is taking the high road, I for one applaud the initiative.

The thread is a little course. M20. The original volvo I believe was 3/4" unf. The pitch for that thread was 1.5mm. The pitch of M20 is 2.5mm so it will need a bit more grunt on the handle to move hubs. But it is the style of puller and strength of puller that will eventualy shift the drum. I have used other similar pullers with a finer thread and the last one i had i totaly destroyed the puller trying to get the drum off. I got that mad that the drum would not come off ,I ended up wacking the puller with a sledge hammer to try to get the drum off and eventualy buggered the puller. Thats why I made this one and the drum came off instantly using the extension pipe. It was almost sexual after all that grief. If it takes off I might try to make a finer thread but the advantage of a slightly courser thread is that it is much stronger.

When I was a lad my dad was an excavating contractor running CAT loaders and plows (bulldozers). They used to always outfit their equipment with fine thread bolts almost everywhere but some time in the late 60's they began changing all of their fasteners to coarse thread-reason strength. I believe you are on the right track using a coarse tread.

Default Hub Pullers

The way I've found which causes the least grief when removing any hubs is Sykes Pickavant's hydraulic ram coupled with the appropriate number of arms for the number of wheel studs you have. The arms attach semi floating to a ring which allows for any pitch. If anyone's interested I can take a picture of the device and post it .

The outer thread is tightened by hand until the centre rod holds on the drive shaft, then the hydraulic inner is wound up using the four inch rod supplied. Bang, off it comes. No damage, no grunting ,no bashing, no hitting of anything. Only slight problem is that Sykes have stopped making the arms so they're worth looking for in old stock or on ebay as the ram works on a whole range of pulling equipment.

Default hub puller finer thread

I am now in the proccess of redesigning the puller with a finer thread. I may have made a mistake with the thread pitch being too course. The new thread will be M22 x 1.25 pitch. This should now be absolutely spot on. Although the courser threaf did still do the job.

I will post pictures sometime next week of the new puller. It is early days yet regarding price but I believe I wont be able to do them cheaper than £45 plus postage. Watch this space.
