CV joint boots
one of the CV boots on my T5-R, where it meets the wheel hub, has sprung a greesy leak. ive decided to get both done as the other ones probably not gonna be far behind it. the place where i get this sort of stuff done says he uses rubber boots, fare enough i suppose, but then i started thinking will the grease, that comes with some of these PARTCO type partern parts, be upto the job? or should i tell the guy ill get the boots from volvo. i dont want a drive shaft faliure. before you ask, yes i have taken it off the road until it gets fixed, so hopefully the shaft is ok.

RE: CV joint boots
I've said before that these cars - especially the performance ones - repay tlc.
Use the Volvo parts for maximum life, unless Don has a good alternative suggestion. The turbo boots are larger than the standard ones, as I found out when I bought the wrong Volvo boot kit off ebay; but the Volvo kit is not too pricey, for once. Removing the shafts to get the boots on is a bastard apparently; they tend to lock in position, so make sure your garage knows this and is ready with GENTLE persuasion, otherwise you'll need new joints as well as boots. |

RE: CV joint boots
i fitted a bellows set from partco no problem, they were made by trw who makes them for volvo (do people really think volvo makes things like rubber bellows!)of course the grease supplied with them is up to the job its moly grease at the end of the day bog standard stuff, dont believe the horror stories about the drive shafts there just the same as any other any competent person can remove them easily this is no doubt another daft urban myth started by garages in order to get the mugs in

RE: CV joint boots
YEAH I AGREE IT PAYS TO GO TO VOLVO STEALERS FOR THE ODD ITEM BUT IF YOU THINK THAT A HELL OF A LOT OF PARTS ARE SOURCED FROM PEOPLE LIKE BOSCH,GKN,ATE MANN CONTINENTAL SO THAT IF YOU CAN SOURCE OEM PARTS FROM A DECENT FACTOR LIKE GSF YOU WOULD BE DAFT TO PAY FOR VOLVOS LARGE MARK UP, CV BOOTS ARE A OBVIOUS EXAMPLE YOU JUST WOULD NOT BUY THEM FROM VOLVO SAME WITH OIL FILTERS YOU CAN GET A ORIGINAL ITEM EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ITEM VOLVO SELL FOR HALF THE PRICE FROM ECP/GSF

RE: CV joint boots
volvo are joking, they reckon £54 per side for a kit for both inner and outer, i only want the outer. so im now checking with nordic, ecp and gsf. nordic just got back to me and quoted £60!!! for a patern, although thats both sides outer only i think. ecp is listing outer boots for a turbo at £8.66.

RE: CV joint boots
I've had boots from ECP for previous cars (non Volvo) and they were made by Lobro. Quality seemed OK, oem I think and they came with a sachet of the correct grease and 2 metal clips to secure the boot. Some lesser kits just come with cable ties which dont secure the boot anything like aswell.
