Volvo 760 GLE “G” reg. 1990. Fuel Pipe Part no. 1312297-3.

Hello everyone,

Hope this finds you all well.

Regarding item number 1312297-3, which is made up of two metal ends joined by a ‘rigid hose’.

This is how it looks as new.



This is how mine looks.



As you can see, mine has two kinks in it.
Probably resulting from the last tighten of the bolt when the fuel filter was replaced.

I’m preparing to replace the fuel filter myself and have looked at various vids on Youtube for guidance. The fuel pipe (or fuel pump coupler hose) is mentioned, in particular, suggesting to be cautious in it’s removal and re-instatement.

Options:

1. Considering the condition of mine, is it time to get a new one?
2. Can I use mine and refurbish it, ie replace the ‘rigid hose’ with a more ‘standard’ piece of rubber fuel pipe?
3. Might the ‘original rigid hose’ still be viable?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I'd say it was time to get a new one of those connector pipes. You really don't want to take chances with your fuel supply lines. You may well find it is almost impossible to remove too. I resorted to an impact wrench which both destroyed mine and shot petrol into my eye, which is very painful.

There's some advice in the FAQ about replacing the fuel pump and filter. It even mentions that piece of pipe.

I'm sure I've read somewhere else that there is a good reason not to try bodging it with ordinary fuel hose. However, I cannot remember what it was now.

There's a new non-OEM one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285292505023. Otherwise, get one from the dealer.

You may want to consider getting some other new parts too to tidy up your set-up. I also used:

Hollow screw 14mm 968179
Hollow screw 12mm 973950
Seal ring 14.3mm/1.5mm 947621
Seal ring 12mm/1.5mm 11994

Good luck and remember to check for leaks afterwards!

The pipe can fail when you are replacing the filter/pump

If the car is Kjet, then there will be between 5-7 bar of pressure behind it, So you are going to want the Proper pipes and unions!

I will not be replacing the 'black hose' with a 'standard' rubberised pipe.

And I'm really surprised that you can get just the 'black hose' as a replacement part, that is something not detailed in my Volvo 760 Parts Catalogue.

Just remember when you are doing the bolts up for this pipe, they are what are called "Banjo" bolts. Hollow (you will see just how thin the wall thickness is) to allow for the flow of fuel, do not go mad with the spanners as they will snap. If the new pipe does not come with new seals (washers) you need to get them so as to minimise the torque required to tighten the bolts to ensure a leak tight joint.
