Default Yet another beast!! 760 GLE query

I have just taken delivery of a 1990 760 GLE, 140k on the clock, (only paid £100 for it!). But, the car won't start. After some thorough testing (cheers Dad!), it appears to be the starter motor.
My queries are as follows:

Can the motor be taken out without removing the oil filter (see Haynes for further details)?

Where is the best place to get a replacement/refurbished motor (S. Wales area or mail order)?

Cheers

Colin

When you turned the ignition key to start position was there 12Volts at the solenoid terminal with a small wire on it?

All the best, Peter

Default Definitely starter motor

All the tests have shown that the starter motor is the problem. I have dismantled the motor since, and the brushes are totally shot, the plate protecting the planetary gears is bent and scratched, and 2 of the 3 rubber shock absorbers near the gears are missing.
