Air bags
So the other day i had a small fender bender w/mailbox (long story) anyway it blew the 2 front air bags in my 01 s60 T5. driver wheel and the one above the golove box. My insurance is very high as it is due to many motorcycle wrecks. So i know a guy who runs a high end shop and he owes me a bazillion favors. So i took it to him , well i just got back from checking on his progress and the drivers wheel has been fixed , however above the glovebox has not. So i say whats the hold up? he said he has to replace the dash to repair that airbag. Now im thinking to myself huh? So is this true? if your passenger airbag is deployed you have to replace your dash? Or does he simply not have the tools to complete this task? any info would be great. oh and this mailbox i speak of was made of brick to match the house. talk about stupid , it was in my blind spot. but damn when those air bags go off , it will def wake you up. i almost p***ed myself.

An airbag going off is just a controlled explosion! The dash is weakend in certain areas so the bag can break it and deploy. The same with the seat side for SIPS bags and with some makes you can actually see like a perferated line where it will break.

I don't know how insurance works in the good Ol' US of A, but here there is a bit of a grey area between bike an car. I did my bike licence before doing my car licence. When I was getting my first car I couldn't use road experience or no claims from my bike, so similalrly I didn't declare any bike claims on my car insurance. My view was that they either accepted everything from my bike days or took nothing, and it was the latter. No doubt there will be a cavalcade of people here to denounce what I did, and say I was wrong and it was illegal, and it caused global warming, but there was never any comeback from it.

I have my motorcycle , home , auto , motorcycle and life with the same company. it always goes up. they also concidered the T5 to be a sports car. It would be a pain to switch and they would know all the previous wrecks n stuff anyway.
