Default Main Dashboard Warning Light

The main warning light on the dashboard above the Main beam light on my 05 XC90 has never worked since I've owned it. By all accounts it can either light up amber or red depending on the severity of the fault. I've had a few messages come up Engine Service Required, Anti skid service required etc, but the main warning light doesn't light up with them. Doesn't come on when first turning ignition on either when all the other dash lights do for a few seconds. Checked the dashboard lights and gauges with Vida and it doesn't come on. Vida not flagging up anything wrong. Anyone know if its a simple bulb change required or is it some sort of special LED given it can change colour?

Paul.

It's likely dry joint problem in the instrument cluster

So decided to have a go at finding what the problem was. A small piece of foam had been cut to shape and inserted into the light housing preventing the lights from being shown !!!
Guess a previous owner selling did this !!
It did keep going into limp home mode along with the dreaded "Engine Service Required" but sorted that with EGR and intake cleaning.

Good Job!!

I would have expected the MoT test to have picked up the fact that the lamps didn't show at switch on (Power On Self Test)

Cheers

Dave

PS - always good to take your time with these things...
