Default Transmission intercooler needed?

Hi, possibly will be purchasing a 2010 XC90 tomorrow and the plan is to tow our 1.8 ton caravan perhaps every couple of months.
Do I need to fit a intercooler for the gearbox?

Also what’s the going rate for a cambelt change from an independent?

Regards
Jamie.

You do not need a gearbox oil cooler unless you are going to be towing in v hot weather. I have been towing a 1.8t caravan for years and have only had a gearbox overheat when in a traffic jam on the Brenner Pass in ambient temperatures of 38c.

A cam belt change will probably cost ~£400.

I fitted one and I don’t do towing but a lot of stop start which is just as bad and can burn the oil, I’ve just had a full gearbox rebuild so want to protect it as well.

They are on eBay I used the Davis Craig 30 row kit comes with the pipe but had to buy the pipe connectors and some metal to mount it securely. The kit is £135 but rung them direct and knocked the eBay fees off I’ll try and post a picture of it mounted.

Not sure if I can get it to post but if you search gearbox oil cooler there’s a thread called additional gearbox cooler and there’s a picture of mine mounted in there.
