Has to be a manual for me everytime. Every car I have owned has been a manual.

I have driven a BMW 7series, BMW X5, and a Chrysler 300c with auto boxes, and (personally) it ruined the driving experience in all of them.

To a certain extent I think it depends on the car. Both my wife's car and mine are autos and I think the Volvo auto box on my V70 is particularly smooth to drive. Her PT Cruiser is the complete opposite and I actually preferred the manual version when we test drove a few examples before buying the car.
All of my work colleagues (who are younger than me) wouldn't consider buying an auto version of any car, but then most of them have never driven one. Only old men drive autos apparently. I remember my father was also anti auto-box, however once he had driven one, only because he needed to borrow the car, he was totally converted and never bought a manual car during the rest of his life.

Default auto's have their place.... and thats not with me lol!!

Manual all the way!!.. i'd love to have one of those 'triptronic?' boxes though,

then if ur in traffic, it's auto!, but then when you have an idiot in an company audi thinkin he's all that you can blast him off the road!!.... and of course it saves your brake pads too, and just overall prefer the engine breaking

hey, here we go, the old auto/man debate agaon lol, mine (v70) is auto and it ok. I have had a mixture over the years of both, sometimes I wish the V70 was manual, but then when I am stuck traffic I am glad its auto.

Like said allready, you wont (I really dont thing) drive the "perfect car", well I dont think so lol

Sorry, can't make up my mind. Sometimes I love the stick shift in the Bimmer, sometimes I love the automatic transmissions in the Volvo and the old Mustang.

It really depends on the situation and I guess an automatic transmission is the perfect choice for everyday driving, and it would be perfect if I could just throw a switch to get 100% manual control and performance the day I'm in the mood for some serious motoring or when the road is covered in snow and ice.

I always have had manual drives but after driving an automatic I don't want anything else any more, driving is now soooooooooo relaxed

Like many have said, Auto for start stop driving / motorway driving and Manual for open road driving enjoyment / spirited driving.

I would say it depends on the size of engine, anything over 2 litre goes better with auto and vice versa.
