Default Tyres on your V50

Well I have normal 17s - not looking to move to 18s though tempted

I currently have Pirelli and they have done well indeed

Any recommendations ? What is volvos standard makes?

do you replace each tyre

or both front together then back or whatever needs first - or do you like to replace all four together at once

i tend to favour the all four together idea

I have conti sport contact 5 - front, and pirelli p7 cinturato - rear. Both equally good in terms of ride comfort. Contis are excellent on wet. P7 have been recent,y fitted so no exoerience here although according to reviews should be good on wet too. I have tested contis in heavy rain few times already and have to say they are impressive.
Check deals on camskill for 205/50/17 - last time I was there I saw contis 93xl for circa 106£.

I've got ditchfinders on at the moment!
will put some decent rubber on when needed (I got a puncture and needed to put something on asap so got a part worn to match what I had on)
I am thinking of getting some new wheels inc rubber, but after spending the best part of 1k on suspension and bushes it will take to top up the car budget…

I usually buy them in pairs, and swap the two best old ones onto the rear and have new rubber on the front (since it's fwd)

New rubber always goes on the back, fwd or rwd.

It reduces the likelihood of swapping ends when braking heavily in the wet, as well as limiting the possibility of snap oversteer.

Google new tyres on the back and see what kwik fit, michelin, tyresafe.org, etc recommend.

interesting...
Have always done it the other way around!
(and from my limited experience I'm not sure I agree that it's easier to control a car with a flat front over a rear!)

Problem with this advise is customer fits his new cheap budgets with no grip to the rear and has his grippy worn premiums to the front, makes for an interesting drive..

Yes, the argument is to have the grippiest tyres on the back... If people buy rubbish tyres then it may not make any difference, they're called ditch finders for a reason. A colleague of mine had some ling long l688s put in his car by the dealer... scary things.

reading up on it, it seems like the advice mainly concerns aquaplaning/wet conditions
My rational is that all the power, most of the braking and steering all happens on the front two tyres, so surely that's where you want the best tyres?
bad tyres of course will always be bad tyres…
anyway, haven't offed it yet! (touch wood) have slid a couple of times in the v50, but that was nothing to do with tyres!!
