New pics of XC90 interior, future for XC60?
http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/2015...vealed/1295769
Presumably this will be carried over to the XC60 shortly afterwards? A bit of a change from endless buttons now to the minimalism on display here. The iddy biddy basic display screen coming on my new XC60 is going to look rather pathetic next to this beast of a screen. A bit like a 15" portable next to a 50" LED tv. Thoughts?

I doubt "shortly" afterwards. The xc60 interior is in line with other P3 platform cars (just as the current xc90 interior is in line with P2 cars and not P3 (ie even the latest xc90 have no sensus, no tft dash, etc).
The new XC90 is the first SPA platform vehicle, and the interior spec etc is the basis for that platform. I think it highly unlikely that it will be ported back to P3 vehicles. On another note, thankfully they have finally put the epb in a sensible place! |

Remind me, how many years has the XC90 been in its current guise?

Well, I would concur with the feeling that it will not be a fast changeover....
....but clearly it is the direction! Wouldn't surprise me to see it in a 2016 timeframe. On the other hand, buttons are "easy" to wire up to do things: s/w needs to be well proven (as we see with the sensus & sat-nav pieces), so I will be happy to look forward to it in a future iteration once the XC90 test guinea-pigs have ironed out the bugs!

I am surprised by everyones comments regarding the delay between transferring the centre console across the board. Normally you have a corporate look and that gets rolled across the range. Obviously the XC90 is the flagship car and that take priority but I would have expected it to filter through to other models, the XC60 being the obvious one, shortly after. Clearly I know diddly about the Volvo approach.

Keep flicking through the pictures, there's one showing part of the armrest leather with the epb nestled in front.

The steering wheel is in the wrong place, and there seems to be a microwave oven where the 8-track should be, also a daleks eye looking inwards in the middle of the dash, it that an Orwellian device ?

It's a matter of engineering.
Why do you think the current XC90 lags so far behind EVERY other model in the range, even the V40? Because it is the only P2 platform vehicle left, and the expense of retooling it would never have paid back. Volvo's current investment is heavy into the SPA platform, and they're not going to spend a lot of money to update the P3 platform cars. SPA XC90 goes on sale later this year. Next year S90 and V90 are expected, to replace the P3 S80 and V70 respectively. After that, the 60 lineup is next in line for replacement. At that point S, V and XC60 will be released on SPA, probably around 2016-2017 timeframe. SPA should mean that new model development is pretty quick once the XC90 has been released - all models will share the SPA architecture, systems and the VEA engines. The EPB is where a conventional handbrake would be - where it should always have been. |

Now that could mean that no upgrades will be available, or alternatively that they will not roll it out to existing models - I actually think that both will apply and that it wont be until a major rework of XC60 is done that it will become available. Not sure which will be next major launch - C70? That is starting took tired now
