I am concious, however, of having bought the car second-hand privately, and until now only dealt with Volvo themselves once, for the clutch cylinder recall...

Meanwhile, what's concerning me is how/why the driver's window moved, not once, but twice after hooking the car up to the charger when nothing else worked - no click inserting the key, no dash lights, nothing, apart from the alarm and flickering sidelights until it recognised the key...
....it's reminiscent of when I plugged the passenger door connector back in, and that window immediately opened slightly - at least this time, I was following instructions over the phone, so if that PDM's now fried, I can blame them...
Not to make it worse but a dying battery giving inconsistent voltage can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins in these cars. People have had non functioning windows, alarm errors, air bag errors, stereos not working... etc... all fixed with a new battery and/or alternator. My concern is you have paid for unnecessary new CEM and door modules. The do fail though, so perhaps you've just been unlucky. Maybe call up another volvo franchise garage a fair way a way on a different network. Say you need a new CEM, New Door module and a new battery, and get the part numbers and prices. Compare this to your invoice to see if you have indeed been given a 'deal'. You could also ask them the cost to install them, and get a price for that too. I've found volvo parts dept to be really nice if you are friendly with them.

That is exactly what's now going through my mind re-reading an earlier post - after they'd 'cleaned up' the CEM and plugged it back in, he said the car was "completely dead"...

Default Fingers Crossed

Took RAC almost five hours to get to me - being safe & secure at home, I wasn't a priority - explained the problem and background when the guy arrived...
....he hooked up his battery tester, which couldn't register anything, so connected the battery to his van, to "get some life into it" - got the car started, ran his tests, and confirmed the battery was shot, and only putting out just over 200Amps(?) rather than 700...
....after checking that nothing was draining the battery and that the alternator was working well, he said I'd be OK driving to the dealer, so with it up and running that's where I took it - half-an-hour and £93 later, new battery fitted and tested, and all now seems OK...
