I've driven enough cars with blowing/leaky exhausts to know that it IS true.

Nothing to do with performance exhausts people, it's to do with life and motoring experience and knowledge.
I also happen to know of many cars where performance suffers horrendously when part of the exhaust is missing, whether a hole or a complete silencer.

Hi All
I have a 1997 Volvo 940 estate, I am looking for a backbox hanging strap. Can anyone suggest where I might find one.

Ebay is another option, two different brackets so check which you have first.

There are 2 types of hangers used:

Late 740 / early 940 models (offset)
Early 740 / late 940 models (straight)

Can't see one on eBay at the moment, the Volvo one is around £40, brookhouse sell them both together.

Back pressure is bad

The exhaust needs to use the pulses from teh cylinders to create suction, this pulls out the gases from the next cylinder. If the exhaust snaps off near the front you loose that suction and see a huge drop in power
