Default Engine mount or torque rod?

Hi
Just noticed a shake just when the car is first started and the same shake when it is turned off.
This is the only motor vibration issue. besides that, the car runs perfect.

Is this due to the upper motor mount being bad?
Lower motor mounts were replaced a few months ago and upper mount (torque rod) looks good with no visible damage.

What do you all think?, Thanks

Hi Gallion,

I'm not sure what would cause the shake on start up and switch off but you can check the upper engine mount quite easily.

First off have a look at it on both sides to see for signs of any splits. If you can't see any manipulate it with a large blunt screwdriver to see if that reveals any spilts. If not, it should be OK.

Regards

Andy

It's worth changing it to a poly mount anyway. One of the best repair's/mod's you, can do!

Default Poly bush engine top mount

Hi, don't know if your vibration is due to the top mount, but it's worth checking the large rubber bush anyway, and as recommended previously it's worth shifting it about with a screwdriver or similar bar to see if it's cracked through, you wouldn't necessarily see this at rest without moving it. I've fitted a polybush on my 850 AWD, purchased through Avonbar Racing [about 22 pounds], and had to shave about 2 m.m. off the outside diameter of the two halves of the bush with a good sharp blade to get it to fit in the housing. [Yes. I did try warming it up in hot water first!] Since fitting it has steadied the engine nicely and will never need replacing again, but I think it has made a very slight increase in noise inside the car.

Yes, a lot of people have said that; that's why I stuck with the Volvo one when I replaced it.

guys, as your talking bout poly bushes do you think it is a worthwhile investment? not talking bout the engine mount bush but the lower ones? i found a kit on line for about £70. is that about the right price? what difference would i expect?
