Default S60 d4 clutch pedal not returning

I've a friend with an S60 d4 and as title the clutch is starting to play up.
It started getting soft and the pedal not fully returning on occasions so we topped up the fluid and gave it a few pumps then all was OK for a few weeks.
It started the same thing again and we checked for leaks ect but there was none present and the fluid was still full.
We bled the clutch and got a few small air bubbles and all was well again for another 2 weeks.
It's now gone soft again with no loss of fluid.
Anyone any experience of this or do I go 50 50 on whether to replace the master cylinder or replace the slave?

Hi,
I've got similar problems. Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue?
Cheers!

Is it a newish model? Mine did the same at 30,000 miles barrelling down the M6 in 6th towards a stationary queue of traffic. I couldn't knock it out of gear, luckily the brakes held to stall it. Not nice.

Volvo diagnosed a faulty clutch, something to do with the clutch fingers snapped off. It was deemed a manufacturing defect and I got a 90% goodwill contribution.
