How to check geartronic when buying volvo
hi All
I love volvo (S60 D5 2002) but my would like to buy XC60 2008-2012 automatic. To minimize the risk of buying faulty car I am planning to buy icarsoft 2 to check error codes but my main worry is the gearbox - geartronics. Could you please help me with:

RE during test drive, you need to get the transmission oil up to working temp, anything lower and it may not show any issues.
It will take a good 20-minute drive if steady driving to get the tranny oil up to temp, do not rely on the engine temp as a guide, as it takes a fair bit longer for the tranny oil to heat up or it will be a bit quicker if you use the Geartronic manually, ie use it like a manual when braking etc, and or the quickest way is to drive it like you stole it........

It goes without saying all shifts up and down should be smooth. Absolutely let the gearbox warm up as the OP said. When warm, come to a standstill, firmly press your foot on the brake and shift between P, R and D. Again you should feel no clonks or bangs. Whilst driving accelerate firmly and the gearbox should react smooth and refrain from flaring up and revving. Good luck with your search. Plenty on here to read.
