Default Illumination

Hi

I've just purchased a new Volvo V90 (Very nice) I went for a drive last night and noticed the stalks on each side of the steering wheel didn't illuminate. I phoned the dealer about it and they informed me that none of the new Volvo range light up. I'm surprised with Volvo, they bang on about safety in there car's. Then let you fumble around in the dark, while driving. To find, what speed the wipers are set at and what your lights may be set at.
Has anyone else found this?

I'm not sure how illuminated stalks aid safety?

Is this a feature you have seen elsewhere?

I've never seen these things illuminated. Set your car up in the daylight and off you go. Your lights come on automatically, nothing to touch there, press the auto wiper button or move the stalk. Not a toughie. We are in 1st world problem territory here.

Incidentally, lovely car. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Have you not ever been in a car, where the white parts of the stalks glow a little? Enough to see what position there in and where you may want them to be.

Safety wise; changing the controls while driving, you may switch your lights off by accident.
I had this feature on my older XC70

Thankyou I'm very pleased with it

Nope, never seemn this in any car and Ihave driven a few

I never need to look at the switches, I know where they are and what they do, same as I never look at the steering wheel position, brake clutch or gearstick.

mine has an added feature for this that's been in every car I've had.
It's called Mrs P.

I think it was a 1956 De Soto. Had a steering-wheel position indicator.

I have the V90 and as said before my settings are done in daylight .I have the lights on Auto and when i get in the car before setting off press the auto wiper button on the stalk. Nothing else to do except maybe activate the auto dimming headlights which is also something I do before setting off. When these are activated there are tell tales to indicate which is set,and these are at the top on the drivers dash board. I have no need to fiddle about with the stalks when these are set as all is automatic. As regards indicators I don't have to see the stalk to operate them as I know where they are.

Why mention wheel position, clutch or brake. Of course I know where they are. I also know how to set up the auto lights and wipers. I just thought it was funny, not having the stalks. (NOT the wheel of other) illuminated. I supposed it's what you used too I guess

Can't say I've ever seen illuminated stalks on a car. I find the illuminated stereo and cruise buttons on the steering wheel distracting when going around tight bends at night as it is.

Hope you're enjoying the V90 though! I still haven't seen one on the road, but then even the XC90 isn't that common in Cumbria yet.
