Question fuel consumption

hi all,
can anyone offer advice on the approximate fuel consumption I should expect from my 94 120k 850 20v auto estate. I do most of my driving around town with short motorway runs ( 4-5miles) and tend to leave the box in economy mode and majority of the time there is only me in the car. My old 740 manual used to return about 25mpg with this sort of use but the new lady seems to be doing less.

thanks in advance and happy new year.

Hi,

I have a 1995 850GLT 2.5 20V Auto Estate, 118K I also drive in town with a 20mile return journey with a short 3-4 mile A road driving and in Economy settings and I have a very light right foot and mine returns around 21.4 on my computer and the worst I get is around 19.5 if stuck in traffic for long time. I keep my tyres inflated at 32 front and 30 rear to acheive these figures.

I have only had this 850 for 6 months and not had the chance to take it out on a long motorway strecth so I don't know exactly how much more it would return.

Hope this gives you an idea.

I have a 97 850 2.5 20v with 104k on the clock and over the past 6 months I've got about 19mpg around town and 29mpg on a decent run on open roads/motorways. I've done about 6k miles in this time if this helps.

I drive pretty carefully with a light foot most of the time although I've found that for non-town driving I can't drop the fuel consumption below about 27.5mpg even with a heavy foot.

I'd expect low 20 mpg. Not as good as your old lady.

I have '94 2ltr 20v auto GLT estate with 150k on the clock, expect anywhere between 20 and 24 around town, and up to 30/32 on a long run.

I have a 2.4 20v auto V70 2001 and drive 12 miles to work in stop start traffic and get between 24/26 mpg and have run many Volvo`s over the years and this figure has not changed very much. I would expect more.

I have a 1994 850SE 2.5Ltr 10V auto Saloon.

I do short trips approx 4-5 miles, the trip computer thingy reports 12.1 mpg.
However I put 5 gallens in the other day and only did 19.4 miles before the fuel warning light came on. The needle didnt even register. So by my reckoning I'm getting about 4mpg at the moment. There must be something wrong somewhere. Either that or its time to buy a moped.

Swampies,

how long does it take for your temperature gauge to get into the 3 o'clock position? It should be within a couple of minutes of driving. From your consumption, you're running very rich or you have a fuel leak.

From the type of driving you're doing and your car, I'd expect about 22-23mpg

Its an auto, petrol, heavy car and round town your figures wont be good at all, with only a few miles on the motorway (one or two of which you tend to be accelerating anyway) probably won't be enough to raise the consumption abouve 22/23mpg.
