I have a 2001 V70 and the heating from the climate control does not come on properly until after approx 20 mins of driving. This was not noticeable last summer but I did have to have it on 22°C so that it didnt feel like a fridge.
Any ideas why I get this delay? I normally have it set to auto but even when it is on manually it refuses to pump out any heat. The system definitely works, its just the time it takes to start up. |

Hi,
two suggestions - is your engine getting to correct operating temp? Temp. gauge should be at 3 o'clock in a couple of miles. Second (and most likely) the V70's have a small circulation fan behind a small grill on the dash that is used to monitor cabin temperature. They are known to block up with fluff and other detritus. I have seen garages give these a brief puff of compressed air at service time to clear them. Cheers

Warthog,
thx for the suggestion. There is no problem with water temp. I would reason also it is the fan (having found a similar post here). Am a little bit surprised that the heating gets going after 20 mins. Will a vacuum cleaner on the sensor grill be good enough to clear any fluff? I'm not savvy enough to start pulling the car apart. It needs an MOT soon so if the vac doesnt work I will ask the garage to do it. |

wouldn't hurt to try the vacuum cleaner.

Ok I am back again. Got rid of as much fluff as possible from sensor. Still the temp is too low. Measured journey to and from work (30 mins each way on motorway and town) and temp is averaging 18-19°C for a setting of 21°C. I used a scientific thermocouple so I know it is correct. Alos the plastic panel around the sensor inlet is warm to touch.
Any ideas before I brace myself to ask the garage to look into it next week? |

Its probably the cooling system thermostat that is stuck open. Theyre cheap enough so try changeing it for a new one.
