Default 2.5 auto feeling flat

hi,

is the 170bhp 20v engine a rather "flat" engine to drive??

mine seems to lack any sparkle at any revs, and certainly dosent feel like 170bhp to me (my 130bhp focus seems to do rather better)

anything i can check for, in 3rd gear trying to pull up a hill at 80mph it just dosent seem to interested. maybe its just the long gearing, but i somehow expected more from 170bhp

what sort of fuel economy are you getting out of it?

also is all the servicing up to date? (sparks, fuel filter, etc etc)

just been serviced and had the auto gear box fluid changed.

around 300 miles to a tank (it sits in traffic quite alot which accounts for most of that, 1 hour to do 15 miles )

its only got the 4 speed box, so i know its very very logn legged, but it just dosent seem to like pulling hard, or revving hard

Seems it may just need a decent run.

Try a running it at about 4000rpm for 20 mins on the motorway, don't use top gear though.

possibly, i'll be doing a few hundred miles from the northeast to cheshire over the weekend so that might help it losen up a bit.

its been like this since i had it so i cant really complain, it could just be a characteristic of this engine.

like i said i in my first post, i was just expecting 170bhp to have alittle more get up and go

My 2.5 20v feels flat under about 3500 revs then it takes off, the 20 valves seem to have better top end torque where as my bosses 140 bhp 10 valve feels more pokey at lower revs but levels out over 4000 revs. Hope this helps.
