Help needed. b18b
Hey all,
i am looking at getting a p1800 back on the road, my dad has owned it since 74, started restoring it in 2002, pulled it apart had the engine rebuilt, wrapped it up in plastic and left it covered(never turned over, no oil). now im wondering what work if any will be needed to get the engine back up and running? will majority of the seals perished from lack of lubrication? im not hugely familiar with volvo engines or piston engines for that matter (rotaries have always been my thing) also are there any other good forums with info on p1800s? Cheers |

As always it depends, pull some bits off, poke about. Could always just put some oil in and start it back in the car and see what happens. But just see if the gaskets are fine, if the seals have haven't gone hard. Just like a rotary.

thanks for the reply, seems the most common thing is to soak it in atf/mystery oil for awhile and give it the old breaker bar treatment then prob hook up a battery to the starter and see what, if any compression is there. if it requires too much work i have a spare 12a turbo im sure would fit in nicely. jokes aside is there any tear down guides online? they seem like a very straight forward/easy engine to work with.

If you are a quick worker you might like this. He removed the head, straight forward, before removing the engine from the car. Using wedges for the timing gear not really recommended if you are going to re use it.
