There's a trapped cricket in my engine

For the past week, I've been hearing what sounds like a cricket chirping away in the cabin. Initially I assumed it was a leaf or something in the ventilation system, but it's coming from the engine bay and on closer inspection seems to be coming from a belt thing (I'm not techinically-minded).

Any ideas? It's really loud in the cabin, to the extent that my 7yr old has asked what it is too.

Could be anything. Your car looks like it is in warranty so I think you need to get to a dealer. Mine made a not dissimilar noise and I ended up paying for a new engine.

Is it diesel or petrol?

Definitely get expert opinion. When I had a similar noise on a D5 S60 it was the inner and outer parts of the crankshaft pulley/oscillation damper starting to separate. If it goes completely it could wreck the engine.

Thanks everyone. I did put a call out to my local dealership yesterday afternoon and they were going to call back. They must be very busy because I've still not heard anything.

I think both Volvo Financial Services and I would prefer to play this one safe. I shall chase them!

A dealer has "diagnosed" via my video that it needs a new auxiliary belt and tensioner. They're hopeful it won't go before I get it to them on Monday, but if it does, at least it's covered by the warranty!
