1st & 2nd Generation XC90 forum pages

Why is the second generation XC90 listed as 2014-> in the forum? ... no retail cars were ever available in 2014 (albeit available to order from September 2014 for May 2015 delivery,) and XC90 1st generation production continued until Q1 2015, so why confuse the issue? ... surely (and yes don't call me surely

) it would have been a bit more sensible to have the first generation cars as 2002 - 2015 and the second generation cars 2015->

Or have I missed something ?

Hi,

Good question, and I mused with this for several minutes.

But essentially because the new phase 2 was conceived and already being built in 2014 (for delivery in 2015 - a special run of 1927 to co-inside with the birth year of Volvo). These may be considered/labelled as MY15!

See the link I have posted to the Wiki above. However, if people consider this wrong then do advise..

Fair point Des, but I dont think the Special first edition cars were actually built until March 2015 .... but Wikipedia (or Fibbipedia as we call it at work,) a large pinch of salt with anything it publishes ... but that may just be me

I'd say it should be renamed XC90 '15> too

In fact on another forum they have put the second generation XC90 as 2016+

All of the other model-group forums run on model years, rather than production dates, so I'd support a change to "15-".

Could be because production of the old one finished in 2014 maybe? All the new ones are MY2015 though due to the break in production for converting the assembly lines.
