Default Experience of J&R Driveshafts (especially MY2000)?

A CV joint is clicking so I am thinking of options...
The whole driveshaft from www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk is only £45 which is suspiciously cheap but I have seen them mentioned here although a quick search didn't bring up anyone who has actually used them for long. Is the quality OK?

Next, the driveshafts / CV joints were unique to the 1999-2000 cars, having a hub bolt not a nut. Others have struggled to get the right part but I just talked to J&R and they are certain theirs is correct.
Bit of a long shot but has anyone used them to confirm? DS432 and DS433 for a 2.4 V70 manual petrol car.

Cheers
Joe

Can't help over the J&R question, but I can say that when I had ABS issues on my 2000MY V70 auto (5 speed box), my mechanci couldn't fit the new spare cv joint from euro's that came with the car when I bought it, as it wouldn't fit, so he filled clean the reluctor ring teeth. I have afeeling that the last of these cars were perhaps fitted with shafts etc from the incoming next gen V70's?? I'd be interested in how you get on tho for future reference

Years ago I struggled to just get a CV joint boot when it split but at least that has changed.

I don't know if the CV joints are the same as the Ph2 cars, but in searching this forum I found a couple of people who had replaced the complete driveshaft thinking it was the same but found it wasn't.

I have always used J&R shafts on both my own cars and the customer cars I fix for other people (Volvos and lesser makes alike).

Talk to J&R, make sure they know exactly which type of fixing you need, then go for it. They will sort you out, and as far as I know, not a single unit I have fitted has ever failed again within the lifetime of the car concerned.

The only issues I have ever had are where I have tried to order shafts in a hurry (and this mainly applies to VW fare) only to find-out that I have the wrong part when it turns-up, despite my best efforts. Hence I suggest talking to J&R directly, as you will obviate that risk completely.

My 10v B5252S V70 has been running one complete shaft on the N/S, and one separate CV-assembly on the O/S, and no problems with snatching or clicking at all.

Reassuring feedback, many thanks!
I will jack the car for more pre-MOT investigation at the weekend then go for it.

Just to check - the clicking only occurs when reversing on full left lock. Does that suggest the right hand CV joint? I am expecting to feel roughness or play when it is jacked up, but that is also the one that has had the boot replaced twice now so has had some abuse.

Fitted a pair or these to my P2 as is worked out more cost effective and less time consuming than replacing both CV joints.
Quality is excellent, all clonks and snatching with loud clunks when put into D or R gone but as written above, yours does need specific shafts, it is also worth mentioning that the P2 variations of auto and manual have different shafts too - this may apply to your car as well.
N.B. They are delivered complete with new driveshaft bolts, which saves a a few quid.

So checked it out at the weekend and decided to just go with a single CV joint. Called J&R as you suggested and was told very firmly they couldnt talk to me on a Monday and definitely couldnt take a telephone order, they were way too busy processing weekend orders!
So I placed an online order and it turned up yesterday and fitted fine.

How do they make them so cheap? The whole joint, boot, bolt, reluctor, postage wasn't much more than a boot bought locally.

Cheers

I have often wondered this myself. J&R cover pretty much everything out there with a driveshaft, and they specialise in transmission shafts, so perhaps by sticking to what they are good at, they become the best option for everybody. What is more, they seem to know all the little nuances on MY changes for many models of cars (Volvo included) so they tend to have the right part first time.
