Engine: D5244: - Possible purchase D5 with two faulty injectors

I am looking at a V70 D5 that has a couple of injectors needing replaced.
How can I verify it is just the injectors or maybe something more serious?

What information do you have that it's specifically the injectors?
I would think something like a leak back test, visible signs of leakage around the injectors or possibly noise at the injectors. Also VIDA / DiCE may give some indication of the issue or other issues present.

The only info I have is the owner has had it tested and it needs two injectors. Sadly that is all I have. He reckons it has been tested by a Volvo mechanic, which if it is the local so called volvo mechanic means jack sh**.

Good, used injectors cost between £35-50 each and take minutes to replace so the obvious question is why hasn't he replaced them rather than selling a car with issues?

I suspect there's more to the story than what's known so far.

I went and seen the car last night
The guy has been using this car for work and as such needs a good clean internally and externally. The engine starts up straight from cold and is initially lumpy on idle but then settles down. When revved their is no smoke but it has the smell of unburnt diesel fuel. I have removed the top engine cover and all the injectors are clean with no leaks visible. I do not have access to vida./dice reader. Would a generic code reader be able to show if any of the injectors are at fault.?
Guy seems genuine and is getting a van and at £500 for a 55 reg it seems pretty cheap.

Do a leakback test first so see if any injectors are miles off what they should be. You can sometimes also feel which injectors are acting up by holding the top of the injector with your fingertips with the engine running.

Does it start within a few turns from cold? If so, that might indicate that the injectors are holding pressure and not leaking.
Does it remain lumpy when cold and settle as it warms up or does it settle fairly quickly (before it reaches temperature)?
Usually un-burnt diesel is indicated by white smoke and I don't think a smell of diesel at the exhaust is necessarily a big problem but may indicate a possible fuel / air imbalance or poor burn.
55 plate would possibly indicate a Eu4 engine (silver / grey engine cover as opposed to black). These can suffer with other issues like swirl flaps that may give rise to the symptoms you describe.
If the rest of the car (apart from the cleanliness which may indicate a person who doesn't take much care of other things like routine maintenance) is OK, I think at £500 it could well be worth a punt - can't really see how you could lose money on that, it's worth more as parts!

YES IT STARTS FROM COLD

IT SEEMS TO SETTLE AS IT WARMS BUT STILL HAS A VERY SLIGHT MISFIRE.

Usually un-burnt diesel is indicated by white smoke and I don't think a smell of diesel at the exhaust is necessarily a big problem but may indicate a possible fuel / air imbalance or poor burn.

Ok so since this thread has been running, we now know that the V70 D5 in question is only £500.

Just buy it.

It could be the EGR it could be the MAF. .....
You need to get the codes read.....
Even with a small obd just to have an idea....
The car is 500, EASY can go twice of that.....
