Default A few things i need to sort on my new to me V70

I have a few things to sort before getting this Volvo V70 2005 (facelift) goes into service.

1. How do I change the the bonnet catch as it looks like a bumper off job?

2. Windscreen wiper mark on windscreen (wish me luck on this one).

3. Front fog lamps (again maybe a bumper off job).

4. Refix the rear spoiler as it has come off!

5. Repair or replace the HU-850 stereo as it is doing the crackling and turning on and off thing these do.
Does anyone know what I can replace it with (or has one for sale)?

6. Clean up the plastic headlights! Does anyone have any decent headlights for sale or has a good method to reface the faded plastic?

7. Adjust handbrake as it seems to be too high (how do i do this?)

Thanks
SC

Thomas
I am hoping it just needs adjusted which by the look of it is under the handbrake gator.
As it is still working.

Who said I'm telling you to change the lot?

Watch it, see what goes where, then make adjustment.

And keep the knowledge for when you do need to change echoes, cables, or whatever.

Besides- when mine was going "high", after several attempts to adjust it dawned on me that the shoes are worn.

This video helped me a lot.

When the hand brake on these cars needs more than a few clicks to fully apply it is very rarely due to the handbrake shoes being worn as they are usually only applied when the car has come to rest.

I slow or stop my car using only the handbrake from around 20mph or so at least once a month to stop the build up of rust and road dirt on the drum. They were barely worn at all when they were changed in August after 3 years. However, the drums were quite rusty even with the regular "cleaning".

In my experience poor the handbrake feel is usually due to the cable having stretched and adjusting the nut(s) under the handbrake gator does sort it out - equally over adjusting can cause the brake to bind.

I've fitted the 850 style adjusters to my recently acquired V70 T5 and I have to say it has made a world of difference - what was a soggy and wallowy feeling brake has been transformed in to a 3 click full application brake with no binding and little or no roll back on a slope - the older V70 still has the normal rear brakes fitted and only fully applies after 6 or 7 clicks, but it too passed the MOT braking test with flying colours. I did query the number of clicks it had to be pulled up with the tester - but he said it was fine.

The real problem with these rear brakes is the delamination of the shoe linings which can cause severe damage to the hubs - it is for that reason that I change the rear shoes at least every three years.

Per No. 5 I fitted a Kenwood double din head unit, much better sound than the old HU650. I must sort a reverse camera for it soon.

I didn't want to change the stereo type as nothing I have seen doesn't suit the fascia. Also the cost of a decent double din is prohibitive. Also I am not keen on having buttons left on the steering wheel that doesn't work.

Headlights are easy to restore using a kit such as 3M or Autoglym with a drill attachment for various grades of sanding paper. I did our facelift lights in about 30 mins with the Autoglym kit:

https://www.autoglym.com/headlight-restoration-kit

says it costs £28 here but I got it from a Halfords for less than half of this.

Audio - look first at the amplifier under your seat, see for any corrosion on the metal box. Water gets to it and bam. The amplifier is driving all but the dash speaker. For a replacement HU-850 or HU-650 (will sound less good) look for one from the same year as your car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xziIajbfxdA
Well worth inspecting under the front carpets for humidity and verify the roof drains are clear on both sides https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jMAWVN2N0Q
