Reading Codes
So got a interesting problem with my 2005 D5. I get a You have 1 message, on pressing the read button the display goes blank and the amber triangle lights up. Any other messages can be read Low washer fluid, door open etc, Vida shows a few faults Internal air sensor not reading, alarm faults. So I can't pinpoint what the mystery fault is. I did hear that with the fault showing (or not in my case) and the amber triangle lit there is a way to find what it is by pressing the read and trip reset in a specific order.
Any suggestions ? Regards, Paul. |

This method will only tell you if there are DTCs in any module
Volvo hidden menu procedure Turn ignition to II position. Press and hold READ button on the left stalk. Press twice rear fog lights button. You should see CHECKING DTCS message on the DIM. Release the READ button. After few seconds you should see DTCS IN VEHICLE message. Use READ button to browse through the hidden menu. Modules will be listed with information about present DTCS: DTC SET errors found in module CHECKING waiting for information from module READY no errors Volvo hidden menu modules list (all models) ABS Anti-Lock Brake System ADM Additive Dosing Module AEM Accesory Electronic Module AFM AM/FM Tuner Module ATM Antenna Module AUD Audio Module AUM Audio Module BCM Brake Control Module CCM Climate Control Module CEM Central Electronic Module CPM Combustion Preheater Module DDM Driver Door Module DEM Differential Electronic Module DIM Driver Information Module ECM Engine Control Module EPS Electrical Power Steering Module ETM Electronic Throttle Module IAM Integrated Audio Module ICM Information Control Module KVM Keyless Vehicle Module LPG LPG Module LSM Light Swith Module MMM Multimedia Module MPM Media Player Module PAM Parking Assistance Module PDM Passenger Door Module PHM Phone Module PSL Power Seat Left PSR Power Seat Right REM Rear Electronics Module RTI Road Traffic Information Module SAS Steering Wheel Angle Sensor SHM Seat Heating Module SRM Sunroof Module SRS Supplemental Restraint System SUB Subwoofer Module SUM Suspension Module SWM Steering Wheel Module TCM TransmissionMessage Channel Module TMC Traffic Message Channel Module TRM Trailer Module UEM Upper Electronic Module WMM Wiper Motor Module

Did the above method and didn't show any codes.
Got a PM suggesting to hold the read button and trip reset for 10 seconds did this a bleep occurred and code 052 appeared. Looked this up and showed a alarm fault. So after further tinkering it turns out to a defective siren unit which by all accounts is a common problem on older cars. Siren kit duly ordered. So the only reason I can think that the "Alarm Service Required" is not displayed is that it has somehow been mapped out, I'd also previously found that the triangle amber and red warning lights were not working, this was due to a a piece of cut foam being put over the lights in the instrument housing ! No doubt by a previous owner when selling !! |
